Afrox has launched an exclusive world-class range of speciality gas products called HiQ® 60, developed internationally by its parent company, The Linde Group.
This follows the recent commissioning of Afrox’s new speciality gases plant at its Gases Operation Centre (GOC) site in Germiston on Gauteng’s East Rand.
Afrox speciality gases business manager Robert Carlton-Shields, says the groundbreaking ‘made for purpose’ HiQ® 60 calibration gases include pure gases and non-reactive gas mixtures, with an extended five year shelf life and flat-line guarantee, allowing for greater reliability in the accuracy of instrument measurement and longer term usability of gas.
He describes HiQ as a ‘master brand’ and says it is a significant leap forward in the supply of calibration gases.
“Up until now, gas suppliers across the market have offered product expiration guarantees generally limited to 36 months, with many products available with only 12 or 24 months of shelf life,” says Carlton-Shields. “Gas products with a more limited shelf life can impact on measurement accuracy, as gas stability in terms of consistency and quality can change over time. Where consistency or purity of the gas has been compromised, this can result in expensive system re-calibration procedures, additional cylinder changeovers and wasted human resource time.
“The most important requirement of any gas used for calibration purposes, is that it can accurately and repeatedly report values of the instrument being measured. HiQ® 60 gas products alleviate concerns associated with quality or reliability issues for a period of up to five years and give customers peace of mind.
“In today’s economy, companies are forced to do more with less, do it faster and better, reduce costs while they’re doing it and be accountable for achieving all this. Our products make sure these criteria are met.”
HiQ® 60 pure gases include argon, carbon dioxide, helium, hydrogen, nitrogen and synthetic air, with calibration mixtures available with multiple non-reactive components. Every HiQ® 60 cylinder of gas is supplied with a certification date, with all products guaranteed for the full five-year shelf life from that date.
Complementing these gases is a line-up of HiQ speciality equipment that includes scientific regulators, gas distribution equipment and laboratory gas generators.
“With the HiQ range, our customers can be confident that they are using a product that is in line with global specifications in terms of both quality and safety,” says Carlton-Shields. “This is a market-superior total solution backed up by local and international technical support. It addresses customer needs in terms of current market trends, technological advancements, new standards and emerging legislation.
“Our state-of-the-art GOC facility has been developed to support these key areas of importance and the increased capacity should meet production demands to 2015. The new production facility will also allow us to produce speciality gases with shorter lead times — in some cases in as little as five days.
“The commissioning of this plant and the launch of the HiQ range will give us an edge in the marketplace and the fact that we’ve delivered this investment in the midst of such challenging economic times, is an indication of Afrox’s strong commitment to expanding the business.”
Carlton-Shields adds that the new HiQ® 60 range incorporates a further development in emissions monitoring and detection — the miniaturisation of emissions monitoring devices, which are often dispersed across remote locations throughout a plant. These instruments demand smaller, highly portable gas calibration solutions.
The availability of the innovative HiQ-branded products will also be beneficial for multinationals, which will be able to access the same products, with uniformly high quality, in any country in which The Linde Group is represented.
